It is our pleasure to share with you the many facets of education at
Beth Chana Academy High School that prepares young women to meet the
challenges of today’s world. We take pride in our excellent
academic program in Judaic and secular studies and in our commitment to
developing character and values, where teachings are internalized and
knowledge is translated into deed.
Beth Chana Academy, now in its 40th year, is a fully accredited High
School for Girls, which has not only served students from the New
Haven-Fairfield areas, but has welcomed scores of young women from
across the United States, Canada and Europe. The modern facility,
situated on an 8-acre campus in Orange, CT, is equipped with a
gymnasium, library, science lab and computer lab.
We offer comprehensive Judaic and secular studies, taught by
certified, caring educators, which fully prepares students for
colleges, universities and seminaries of higher education and enables
our graduates to become productive, dedicated members of their
communities.
Our comprehensive Torah studies program focuses on building textual
skills that assist students in becoming lifelong learners. Emphasis on
relevant lessons helps define current issues in light of Torah and
Chassidic perspectives. Texts in Chumash and Navi are studied
accompanied by commentaries, and students’ thinking skills are
developed as they delve into answers for questions that may
arise. Accommodation is made for various levels of study.
Students are motivated to work on independent projects and express
their creativity through productions, journals, and posters, which show
their understanding of subject matter. Classes in Halacha,
Chassidut, Talmud, and Jewish History, expose our students to the
beauty and vast depth of Jewish learning.
In the secular department, students advance through a challenging
4-year sequence in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and
Science. AP courses, which may begin as early as the sophomore
year, prepare students who are college bound. Additionally,
courses in Art, Computers, and Physical Education complete the program.
A Hebrew Language course emphasizes Conversational Hebrew and
creative writing skills. Spanish or French is offered as a second
language.
Chesed is an integral part of the school curriculum. Students
are required to complete 36 hours of community Chesed during the school
year. Students interact with residents at the senior home, help area
Shluchim at Holiday programs, conduct groups at Mishmar, and tutor
younger children.
An active Student Council plans school programs, interschool
Shabbatonim, and educational trips. Rosh Chodesh programs give
the girls extra opportunities for seminars, workshops, inter-class
competitions and discussion on timely topics. Additional
programs, with guest speakers in attendance, mark the special days on
our Chassidic calendar.
