Curriculum

Preschool Curriculum

Our comprehensive and developmentally appropriate program is designed to promote each child's intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth throughout a child’s early childhood years. Our program is designed with each specific age in mind: Early Toddlers, Toddlers, Nursery 3, and Pre-K. Games, play and activities are skill-based and goal oriented, so that the children are growing with everything that they do.

The SCHA Preschool recognizes that every child has unique learning styles and play interests. With this in mind, we provide a differentiated curriculum that is adapted for each child.

Early Toddlers

The first few years of your child’s life is a period during which learning takes place at an accelerated pace. We provide the sense of security and loving care that toddlers need to thrive during this stage of intense learning. Activities are designed to encourage development of all aspects of a child’s life – physical, social, emotional, and cognitive. Our children learn and explore through active play, hands-on and sensory experiences. Since toddlers are especially committed to achieving independence, our teachers provide responsive individual attention as your child deals with positive experiences, as well as frustration, in a patient and nurturing environment.

Toddlers

Toddlers are rapidly developing their skills in the areas of motor control, language and symbolic thinking. They are discovering a world that is filled with wonder and excitement. Toddlers love to be on the move and to explore. Our program is designed so that the children learn about everyday life throughout the day following a routine which is consistent, predictable, yet also flexible to meet the needs of the children. Our Toddlers program challenges the total child: physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively.

The curriculum is an integrated curriculum, a seamless weave, combining thematic units with language, literature, art, dramatic play, music, math concepts and Jewish holidays. Children will be able to test their own skills by engaging in both child initiated and teacher directed activities. Independence skills and self-esteem are key factors in success at this stage. The play opportunities and activities presented lay the foundation for future learning.

Nursery 3

3 year old children are growing from being dependent toddlers to a more independent preschooler. The children are discovering a world that is filled with wonder and excitement. Our program will prepare your child with life skills by offering a variety of learning and play centers. The centers will challenge the total child: physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively.

Pre-K

Pre-K children are now beginning to appreciate the various accumulated skills and knowledge, and are excited to apply it in their own learning experiences and environment. Our Pre-K children are now becoming prepared for future success in their coming school years.

Integrated Curriculum: Integrating mathematics, linguistics, sciences, topics of interest, Judaic Studies, Jewish Holidays, etc.

Spiraling Curriculum: Information and skills connected to and built upon previously learned material. Concepts introduced are continually reviewed and revisited.
Emergent Curriculum: Our curriculum allows children to pursue their own interests and fascinations in subjects. Children in our Pre-K program explore these concepts, but are not required to master them before entering Kindergarten. Children learn these concepts with encouragement and at their own pace. Children are taught with hands-on materials, songs, and games. They are assessed by observation and work samples.
