Ms. Rochel Beck Toddlers Teacher Ms. Beck joined the SCHA Preschool faculty in August 2012. Prior to coming to SCHA, Ms. Beck taught Pre-Kindergarten in Redondo Beach, California. She attended Seminary in Montreal, Canada, where she studied Early Childhood Education and Child Development. She loves working with preschool children and is wholly invested in our school.
Mrs. Nava Benichoov Nursery 3 Judaic Studies TeacherMrs. Benichoov began working in the SCHA Preschool in 2000. She is a graduate of Ort Ramat Gan. She served in the Israeli Air Force prior to receiving a degree in Accounting and Economics from Mishlav College in Tel Aviv. She is the creator of the Ivrit B'Ivrit Enrichment Program for Early Childhood classes. This program provides Hebrew language exposure through music, movement, and literature. Mrs. Benichoov served on the Youth Committee of the Westville Synagogue for ten years. She ran the Tot Shabbat Program at the Westville Synagogue for four years. She taught Sunday School at B'Nai Jacob of Woodbridge, CT for three years. Mrs. Benichoov was the recipient of the 2010 Shul Service Award of the Westville Synagogue.
Ms. Reut Bongart Toddlers and Pre-Kindergarten Assistant TeacherMs. Bongart joined the SCHA Preschool faculty full time in September 2016. She is a Graduate of Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy and Monsey Bais Chana Academy. She previously worked as a substitute in the SCHA Preschool, and as a counselor at Camp Gan Israel of Greater New Haven.
Mrs. Sara Burns Preschool Teacher Mrs. Burns joined the SCHA Preschool faculty in September 2016. She is working towards her degree in Early Childhood Education from Gateway Community College. Prior to coming to SCHA, she worked as a preschool teacher at Teddy Bear Corner Daycare and Preschool Center in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Ms. Lindsay Chapman Toddlers A TeacherMs. Chapman began working in the SCHA Preschool faculty in August 2015. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University. She had eight years prior experience working with toddlers and preschool students in daycare centers throughout Connecticut before joining the SCHA Preschool faculty.
Mrs. Mira Jaekle Toddlers Teacher Mrs. Jaekle joined the Preschool staff in October 2008. She has worked with students in all of the Preschool classes, ages 18 months to four years; as well as working with students in the after-school program. She has also served as a counselor and Assistant Director of Camp Gan Israel of Greater New Haven. Mrs. Rosen is working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education at Housatonic Community College.
Mrs. Bassie Kalmanson Pre-Kindergarten Judaic Studies TeacherMrs. Kalmanson began working in the Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy Preschool in 1994. She was a teacher in both the Toddlers and Nursery 3 classes before becoming the Judaic Studies teacher in Pre-Kindergarten in 2007. Mrs. Kalmanson earned her teaching degree from Beth Rivkah Seminary in Israel in 1986. Since then, she has taught preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students in Hebrew Day Schools in several states. She has worked as a counselor in Camp Gan Israel in Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Toronto, including serving as Head Counselor in Toronto and Phoenix, Arizona. She has earned numerous Best Counselor and Outstanding Teacher awards.
Ms. Shainy Lieder BCA Dorm Counselor and Pre-Kindergarten Assistant Ms. Lieder joined the Preschool and High School staff in September 2016. She received her diploma in Advanced Jewish Studies from Ohel Khana Seminary, and is working towards her Teaching Certification from Bet Chana Seminary in Tzfat, Israel. Prior to coming to SCHA, she served as a Teacher’s Assistant in Beth Rivkah Elementary School in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Ms. Carlene Olivia Nursery 3 and Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Ms. Olivia began working in the SCHA Preschool in October 2015. She has previous experience working with students with special needs, helping them with social skills and transitioning into nursery school classes.
Mrs. Gina Salvio Toddlers Teacher Mrs. Salvio joined the SCHA Preschool faculty in April 2016. She is working towards her degree in Early Childhood Education from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Mrs. Salvio brings her expertise as a Preschool Teacher from four years of teaching at Congregation B’Nai Israel in Bridgeport, CT.
Ms. Chani Weinberger Toddlers Teacher The SCHA Preschool was very happy to welcome Ms. Weinberger to the faculty in September 2016.
Mrs. Julia Weinstein Nursery 3 Secular Studies Teacher Mrs. Weinstein began working at SCHA Preschool in January 2008 as a floater. She has worked specifically with the Nursery 3 class since August 2010. She has also worked as a counselor in the Mini Gan Izzy division of Camp Gan Israel of Greater New Haven. Mrs. Weinstein earned a BA in English from the University of Connecticut, and her MS in English and Education from Southern Connecticut State University in Spring 2011.
